Indian Physiotherapists Who Got Their German Work Visa: Their Real Stories (Videos)

Dr. Sruthi Mohan, Dr. Hruthu Sreekumar and Dr. Khushvi Desai, Indian physiotherapists who got German work visas

In short: Indian physiotherapists Dr. Sruthi Mohan and Dr. Hruthu Sreekumar from Kerala, and Dr. Khushvi Desai from Ahmedabad received German work visas for physiotherapist jobs with Welcare Overseas. They all say the same thing: German to B2 level is the real work, and patience matters. Their timelines ranged from a few months to about a year once language study was underway.

Many BPT and MPT graduates ask us what the road to Germany actually looks like for someone like them. Instead of answering in theory, here are physiotherapists who have done it, in their own words from their video interviews with Dr. Naresh Bhati. Watch each video for the full conversation.

Dr. Sruthi Mohan, Kerala: “Focus on the language, the paperwork was taken care of”

  • Background: a physiotherapist working in Kerala.
  • Why Germany: she spent about two to two and a half years comparing countries, and chose Germany for the opportunities for healthcare professionals and a better work-life balance. Her uncle encouraged her and found Welcare through Instagram.
  • German: she passed her B2 exam and credits her tutor, Ashwathy ma’am, for building her confidence.
  • The process: language training, document preparation, job interviews, placement, the deficit notice (Defizitbescheid) and the visa. She calls it “a long journey” but a smooth one, because she could concentrate on learning German.
  • Her advice: “Without that language you can’t survive there.” Practise every day, especially vocabulary and medical terms.

In September 2026 the Welcare team saw her off at Bengaluru airport. Her next steps in Germany are a training period and the knowledge test (Kenntnisprüfung) to complete her recognition.

Dr. Hruthu Sreekumar, Kerala: about one year from language to visa

  • Background: Bachelor of Physiotherapy, followed by one year of work as a physiotherapist in Bengaluru.
  • Why Germany: the job opportunities, better work-life balance and living conditions. Her brother first showed her the opportunities, and her parents supported her throughout.
  • Timeline: she started learning German before the documentation began. Documents were prepared alongside her language study, and she says it took around one year to complete everything until getting the visa.
  • Her advice: clear the language first; work experience in India helps you settle in when you start working; and commitment and patience are very important.

Dr. Khushvi Desai, Ahmedabad: A1 to B2 in a few months

  • Background: Bachelor of Physiotherapy from Ahmedabad Institute of Medical Sciences, graduated in 2023. She first started German in 2023 hoping to do a master’s in Germany, and when that admission didn’t work out, switched to the job route.
  • How she found Welcare: an Instagram advert, followed by a profile evaluation.
  • German: she says she studied A1, A2, B1 and B2 in roughly a month each, then took three to four months to prepare for the B2 exam, which she cleared in early 2024. Her view: A1 and A2 are easy, B1 is manageable, and B2 is harder but very possible with good practice. “The mindset should be that you have to do this.”
  • Why Germany: work-life balance, lower cost than the USA, Australia or Canada, and in her experience the quickest route to a physiotherapy work permit if you learn the language.
  • Timeline: once her deficit notice arrived, the remaining documentation took about one to two months, and her visa email came within a week. The family had been with Welcare for about six to eight months.

  • German is the deciding factor. Each of them names the language as the main hurdle. Physiotherapy is a regulated profession in Germany, and recognition normally requires German at B2 level.
  • Recognition comes with a deficit notice. Indian training is compared with the German one, and gaps are usually closed with a knowledge test or an adaptation period in Germany. See our physiotherapist recognition guide for the full process.
  • Family support and patience. Each of them mentions parents, siblings or an uncle who backed the decision, and waiting periods that needed patience.
